you don't take visa???!

the semester is over! now what do i do for 5 weeks? the plan is to reorganize and streamline my living space. and be lazy. and sleep alot. oh yeah, and find an internship.

i celebrated the end by going out to dinner last night to mamma zu (with lucy). this is an italian restaurant in richmond with a good reputation. however, they don't take reservations and only accept payment in AMEX or cash.

i satisfied my dining out requirement (=order something you can't make at home) with the zuppa di pesce. basically a bowl of pasta with many types of seafood over it-- clams, oysters, mussels, shrimp, rockfish, squid, and others i can't name. it was delish.

check came, and of course being products of the modern age who rely on plastic, we did not have nearly enough cash on us to pay the bill. luckily-- ha-- i had my checkbook. the waiter did not want to take the check, but he didn't have much choice now, did he? it felt very early 1990s to be writing a check. like my mom at ukrop's.

there's a thai restaurant inthe west end who doesn't take checks anymore. too many bounced. they put photocopies of all the bounced checks on the wall by the cash register. i hope mine doesn't end up at mamma zu.
