fitting in, building "Little Bihar"

guddu and i attend NO neighborhood events. our excuse is that we are workaholics. but in reality, there is another reason: we are not rich middle-aged white people with blond children and one volvo and one SUV.

i contemplated in the past attending the progressive (not in the political sense!) dinner, christmas party, summer cookout, etc. but ever since complaints of the number of cars we parked were published in the neighborhood newsletter, i have boycotted all neighborhood events-- even listing ourselves in the directory.

furthermore, we do not drink, eat beef and pork nor italian food. nor do we have kids or sizeable incomes.

would we be more participatory if we lived in, say, "little bihar"? i dream to move into a small, easy-to-clean condo with minimal possessions in a warm place where we can keep the windows open yearlong. and there would have to be a big bed (no, not like michael jackson's) where scores of relatives and friends would join to sit cross-legged and discuss and laugh and plan marriages, but never do a thing...
